The revolutionary ChatGPT web application has brought huge concerns in the field of education. Language teachers, who are among those who rely more on written assessments, have been among the most concerned from the outset, exacerbated by extensive media coverage of the chatbot's much-publicised functionality. It is argued that ChatGPT could radically change the way students interact with their teachers and the way they learn. It offers significant opportunities for teachers and educational institutions to improve their teaching, as it similarly provides students with a range of research opportunities, particularly towards a more personalised learning experience. In this paper, therefore, a thorough discussion on how AI can be used by students and teachers is presented. While the issues and concerns related to the use of chatGPT are then discussed.
