The present thesis deals with and analyzes the issue of contracts in the specialized field of Decentralized Finance (DeFi). In the first stage, the definition, the special characteristics and the nature of contracts are- in general- analyzed, while, following, the definition and the applications of DeFi are examined, as well as the importance of contracts in the aforementioned field. Subsequently, both the existing European and national legal framework for contracts are thoroughly examined, analyzing the individual legal provisions, but also the general legal provisions that apply in these cases (e.g., Rome I and II Regulations, Civil Code, etc.). The last chapters present, in general, the advantages, as well as the disadvantages of contracts, which are respectively, the advantages and the disadvantages for the in-question field of DeFi.

Finally, the general conclusions are presented and analyzed, while at the same time - to a large extent - the solutions to deal with the possible challenges - disadvantages are also presented. It should be noted that the aim of the present thesis is the multidimensional presentation of the opinions on the aforementioned subject and by no means the adoption and one-dimensional presentation of a specific (academic) point of view, that’s why, various documented opinions, supporters and opponents of the application of the above contracts are analyzed. More specifically, the present thesis aims to the arousal of the broader reflection on the aforementioned subject, mainly, in relation to the implementation of contracts in the field of DeFi in Greece.
