In recent decades, the fast pace of technological developments and the ever-changing business world has played a key role in shaping both the external and internal environment of organisations. In particular, in the industrial sector, after four (industrial) revolutions, the trend now seems to be clearly shifting towards process automation and the installation of advanced systems. The objectives of every business are, certainly, to succeed in technological innovation, to develop a competitive advantage, to survive and, ultimately, to prosper.
Thus, through the literature review, it was attempted to study the whole process from modelling to the final stage of production scheduling configuration, the changes brought about by replacing the "old-established" way of scheduling, the benefits in terms of modernization of operations. It is worth mentioning that, the existing literature may provide sufficient theoretical background however practical applications are limited.
Therefore, within the context of this thesis, it was attempted the study of Halcor S.A. case, which is attuned to the challenges of the modern era by installing an Advanced Planning and Scheduling System.
