Smart buildings are a reality that is increasingly appearing in cities around the world. Phrases such as “a building that fully controls its environment” “a building that is in control of its functions” are typical to describe a smart building. The concept of smart buildings is not new, but has evolved mainly due to the development of new technologies which, when integrated into the domestic ‘digital world’, allow for more intelligent processes that extend the ability of the building to op‘rate in a mor’ efficient, flexible, interactive and sustainable way.
IoT-based smart home technology has transformed human life by providing connectivity to everyone, regardless of time and place through artificial intelligence programs, sensors and automation. It is a sector of IoT, which consists of a network of physical devices that provide electronic and network connectivity within a home. A set of interconnected electronic devices and components that work together to improve the efficiency, comfort, safety and sustainability of both buildings and occupants.
Natural disasters, which have become more intense and more frequent in recent years due to global climate change, affect the electronic systems of smart buildings, resulting in their possible inefficiency or even total destruction. Keeping a building operational during or immediately after a natural disaster is important for its resilience and sustainability, both for the life of the occupants and for its rapid recovery after the disaster.
