This dissertation explores the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the teaching of Geography, with a specific focus on enhancing students' understanding of cultural differences and encouraging active engagement. The study examines the effectiveness of an educational scenario implemented with AI tools, including ChatGPT, in a classroom setting. The research investigates several key areas: the impact of the scenario on students' understanding of basic Geology and Geography concepts, the role of AI in facilitating information search and processing, the influence of collaborative activities on student participation, and the development of critical thinking skills.
The findings indicate that the AI-enhanced educational scenario significantly improved students' comprehension of Geology and Geography concepts, with a majority of students achieving excellent or good performance. Additionally, the use of ChatGPT was found to be a valuable tool in enhancing students' research skills, allowing for more in-depth exploration and understanding of the topics. Collaborative activities fostered a strong sense of teamwork and participation among students, while also contributing to a deeper appreciation and respect for cultural differences.
Despite the positive outcomes, the study acknowledges several limitations, including the small sample size and the gender imbalance among participants, which may affect the generalizability of the results. The dissertation concludes by emphasizing the need for further research with larger, more diverse samples to validate the findings. Future studies should also explore the application of similar AI-enhanced educational scenarios in different educational contexts to assess their broader applicability.
In summary, this research highlights the potential of AI to transform Geography education by promoting cultural understanding and engagement, while also identifying areas for future exploration to fully realize the benefits of AI in education.
