Artificial Intelligence (AI) and industrial innovation play a key role in shaping the modern business environment, particularly in the industrial sector. This dissertation, titled "Artificial Intelligence and Industrial Innovation: A Case Study from Suzhou Industrial Park in China," examines how AI contributes to the promotion of innovation through automation and AI technologies. Using Suzhou Industrial Park as a case
study, the research analyzes how multinational companies such as Bosch, Johnson & Johnson, and WuXi AppTec, which are based in this industrial park, adopt AI to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. The first part of the research includes a theoretical overview of innovation and technological advancements, while the second part focuses on the application of AI at Suzhou Industrial Park. Specifically, the dissertation is divided into four chapters. The initial part of the work analyzes the definition of innovation and the various typologies and business models that accompany it, focusing on the transition from the linear economic model, based on the "production, consumption, and disposal" path, to the circular economy model, which emphasizes concepts such as reduction, reuse, repair, recycling, and recovery. Following this, the evolution of industrial parks, their institution, and the role they play in promoting innovation globally is presented. The study then delves into artificial intelligence, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the types of AI and automation technologies, and their applications in industry. Using Suzhou Industrial Park as a case study, this dissertation focuses on the park's role as an important hub of industrial innovation, emphasizing the contribution of AΙ to production processes. Through this park, the adoption of AI in the business models of multinational companies is examined in order to improve productivity,
competitiveness, and sustainability. To refine the analysis, a representative sample of companies operating in Suzhou Industrial Park, such as Bosch, Johnson & Johnson, and WuXi AppTec, was selected. Each of these companies leverages AI in different ways, highlighting its applications in various sectors– from the automotive industry and smart cities to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Through this analysis, the role of Suzhou Industrial Park is highlighted as a platform where AI supports innovation and industrial development on a global scale.
