This master thesis aims to study the effect of Gamification on the motivation of learners. Specifically, a gamified tutorial was developed on the Wix customized platform on the topic of academic well-being for higher education students, based on the three key components of the Self-Determination theoretical model (Autonomy, Competence and Relatedness) and the Project Based Learning strategy. The course lasted 14 weeks and was divided into 4 teaching modules: Mental Health, Nutrition, Exercise and Social Well-being. The significance and novelty of this study lies in the combination of this theory with the gamification technique for mobilization of incentives in a course based on a serious topic such as mental health. Quantitative methodology was used for the purpose of the study through data collection using a questionnaire. The sample consisted of 46 higher education
students of financial studies. The results showed that the addition of gamification had a great influence on the needs of Autonomy, Competence and Relatedness. The gamified elements incorporated into the course had a positive impact on the learners, creating a pleasant atmosphere that enhanced their morale and wellbeing within an effective study environment. Therefore, it can be concluded that the gamification technique can significantly enhance participants' intrinsic motivation through the careful use and application of its elements.
