The purpose of this study is to raise children's awareness regarding the proper use of the internet by developing appropriate digital skills for responsible and safe behavior. The principles of netiquette will be analyzed, and an interactive educational e-Course with gamification will be designed and implemented, based on the Project-Based Learning pedagogical model. This course will motivate children, through engaging challenges, to absorb the rules of good behavior online and to prevent the dangers of cyberspace, such as cyberbullying.
The e-Course will support the UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education), by promoting the provision of quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all, and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), by enhancing the responsible and safe use of technology in children’s everyday lives.
The research process is designed so that the course will be applied and evaluated by 4th grade primary school students. The effectiveness of the e-Course in improving digital etiquette and enhancing participants' safe usage skills will be assessed through pre- and post-training questionnaires and a self-assessment rubric upon completion of the process.
However, within the framework of this master's thesis, the research process will be limited to an experimental study evaluating the course’s effectiveness in adults. Quantitative data analysis reveals that the sample finds this course highly effective.
The contribution of this study focuses on the creation of an interactive e-Course with gamification elements on the topic of netiquette, aiming to promote polite and appropriate online behavior by educating children from a young age.
