With the increasing number of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnoses and the need for more effective teaching tactics in the classroom, it is vital that teachers receive ongoing training. The goal of this master's thesis is to create a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) that will cultivate the ability of educators to assist students with ASD in the classroom by developing specialized teaching tactics that meet their specific needs.
The learning outcomes of the course are to teach students the key characteristics of ASD, as well as teaching methods that improve their social, behavioral, and communication skills, and their sense of autonomy. One example is the use of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) to enhance student communication.
This microlearning course design aims to provide teachers with short, immediately applicable training that is flexible and takes into account teachers' busy daily schedules. The microlearning course makes teacher training more targeted, focusing on the teaching strategies most needed to more effectively teach children with ASD.
