This thesis concerns the design and development of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)
for learning the Basic Principles of Economic Theory, based on the content material of the
course “Principles of Economic Theory” of the 3rd grade of the General High School in the
Economics and Informatics field of study.
Initially, reference is made to the aim of this Master Thesis and the need for the
development of the trainees’ selected professional skills, is documented. The advantages
and challenges of Massive Open Online Courses are mentioned and the choice of micro learning for the design of the MOOC as well as the contribution of the specific thesis is
justified. Following, there is an overview regarding the structure and content of ten online
courses from foreign and Greek Universities, which are related to economic science and are
suggested as opportunities for trainees further development.
The Instructional design and development of the micro-MOOC is based on the competence
framework of the School Curriculum for the “Principles of Economic Science” course (3rd
grade of General Lyceum 2023) proposed by the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and
Sports (Official Gazette 364, 2023). The Master Thesis examines the content of the material
it covers, the skills to be developed, the educational goals it seeks to achieve, the learning
outcomes, as well as the audience it addresses.
Implementation of the micro-Course on the eduNEXT platform is also being showcased. The
modules and chapters it entails of are presented, as well as the course of activities and the
tools used to implement the assignments and the micro-MOOC as a whole. Also, the
evaluation of the micro-Course is listed, accompanied by the conclusions reached from the
specific evaluation and suggestions for future improvement.
