The dissertation examines crisis management as a complex system involving multiple stakeholders. These stakeholders often interpret events differently or have conflicting interests, influenced by personal biases. This makes coordinated crisis response particularly challenging. The situation is further complicated by social vulnerability, which adds another dimension to the already intricate equation.
A holistic approach is proposed to effectively address such challenges. This includes collaboration across various scientific fields and experiential involvement in crisis scenarios, allowing the system to be continuously updated with new knowledge and to self-regulate. The goal is to provide innovative and accessible solutions, especially for vulnerable groups of citizens.
The dissertation focuses on the theoretical foundation of crisis management arising from natural and anthropogenic risks. Its purpose is to capture the knowledge and perceptions of citizens in the Attica region regarding natural and technological disasters. It also examines their trust in the existing risk management framework and records their level of social vulnerability, with the ultimate aim of enhancing their resilience to potential crises.
