Nowadays we should not be complacent with one of the most alarming events, that of the exhaustion of the natural resources of the earth. This depletion is a consequence of the linear production model which discards products when they complete their life cycle. Minimizing the human environmental footprint through waste minimization, better use of raw materials, energy upgrading, and judicious use of natural resources are among the main solutions we currently have in our hands to prevent destruction.
All this is achieved by the transition of our economy, and thus our businesses, to a circular economy model which is a guarantee of sustainable development.
The European Union (EU) has led the way by setting clear environmental and climate targets while encouraging business at both local and regional levels. Through a more sustainable production model, with ecological design - waste management etc., it is a given that companies will see an increase in their turnover, a drastic reduction in their costs and the creation of jobs.
By the year 2030 the European Union (EU) wants to reduce greenhouse gases by 2-4%, reduce material inputs by 17-24%, boost EU GDP by up to 4%, and save €630 billion annually in European industries.
Through a specially structured questionnaire, this research wants to examine the adaptation of such practices, circular economy, to an ecosystem that has recently been mapped in the Greek area, that of start-ups.
The reason why Greek startups were chosen was the great growth potential they have, because they are intertwined with the integration of innovative technologies and because they seek to create new markets or dynamically develop existing ones.
The collection of primary data from such businesses gave an answer that the circular economy can be part of the answer to today's challenges, harnessing the power of business for the benefit of society.
The practical applications for the adoption of the circular business model of our country are constantly increasing. The development of the circular economy in Greece can be expanded in the light of financing innovations to businesses, helping in part to the efficient use of resources and strengthening competitiveness.
