This present thesis focuses on credit cards, which are widely used tools for
transactions, allowing users to make purchases without immediate payment. Credit
card fraud refers to theft and fraud committed through credit cards or similar payment
mechanisms, aiming at either obtaining goods without payment or illegally acquiring
funds. Various statistical and other methods which look for suspicious transaction
patterns are employed to detect such frauds.
In this thesis, different historical cases of credit card fraud will be presented, along
with statistical data regarding the financial impact of fraud in various countries or
organizations. Furthermore, the effect of fraud on the operations of institutions and
the financial system will be analyzed. The main fraud detection methods will then be
examined, and finally, these methods will be applied to real-world data.
