This thesis focuses on the development strategy followed by Singapore from its independence to the present day, highlighting the factors that led it to become one of the world’s most important financial centers. Despite its small geographical size and population, Singapore has managed to achieve remarkable economic growth and social progress within just a few decades, making it one of the most developed countries in the world today.
The significance of this study lies in the fact that Singapore represents a model of economic success, based on strategies that included reforms in fiscal and tax policy, education, technology, and social infrastructure. Its success was not solely the result of natural resources or its geopolitical position, but rather the carefully planned policies implemented by its governments.
The analysis of this thesis is divided into five chapters. The first two chapters present the general social and economic characteristics of Singapore. Chapters 3 and 4 focus on the development strategy adopted by the country from its independence until the 1990s, analyzing the most significant economic and social reforms. Chapter 5 compares Singapore’s strategy with those of Japan and South Korea, aiming to highlight the commonalities and differences in the development policies of these three nations.
The purpose of this thesis is to understand how the strategic policies followed by Singapore contributed to its transformation into a global financial center, as well as to identify the key factors behind its success. By comparing it with other developed Asian countries, this study aims to provide valuable insights into the importance of strategic management in achieving economic and social development.
