In recent years, there has been a strong focus on quality and process improvement methods in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, driven by the imperative to enhance patient experience, safety, and overall efficiency. This study uses bibliometric analysis to examine the development and current state of research on quality and process improvement methods in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. Based on reliable databases, a comprehensive set of relevant publications spanning from 1990 to 2023 was compiled. Through meticulous analysis, publication trends, influential works, prominent authors, leading institutions as well as research trends in sector. The use of scientific mapping techniques, such as author networks, keyword co-occurrence analysis and bibliographic coupling helped to understand the conceptual structure of the field. Content analysis revealed several dominant research themes, including, but not limited to, the application of Six Sigma, Lean methodology, Total Quality Management, and other quality improvement frameworks in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and healthcare delivery systems, but also the role of technology and data analysis in improving quality and patient safety. The study concludes by suggesting possible avenues for future research, such as exploring strategies, guidelines, and implications, exploring Lean Six Sigma applications in hospitals, innovations in supply chain management and operational efficiency, cultivating a culture of continuous improvement, as well as exploring emerging technologies and strategies for sustainability and efficiency.
