ERPAbstract
ERP systems are proving to be a critical pillar in today's highly competitive and uncertain business climate. The benefits provided by these systems are significant and dispel concerns about their use. They aim to unify the data and operations of all departments within a company and make them easily accessible, resulting in smooth workflow, automation, greater productivity, reduced errors, data security and speed. Companies based on their needs and desires could choose what type of ERP suits them best (on premise/cloud, closed/open source), and should plan their transition very carefully by following some important steps for a successful deployment. The evolution of ERP over time has been rapid, and modern business methods have pushed software providers to innovate, and when designing ERPs they consider lean manufacturing techniques, a focus on sustainability, and smart technologies that make systems more powerful. For example, in recent years more and more ERPs have been using artificial intelligence to analyse data, make predictions and recommendations and help in every way to make better decisions. Especially during the pandemic period, the need for digital transformation led companies to adopt more advanced ERP to cope with the pressure or even implement ERP for the first time. After a literature review it was found that their advantages focus on improving business operations and processes, increasing employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction, easier and more accurate internal and external control. Disadvantages related to installation time, costs, data security and lack of employee acceptance were identified, which in no way outweigh the advantages. The management of the company as well as the team responsible for the implementation of the ERP with effective planning and good cooperation could nullify the disadvantages that the installation of an ERP may have. In the research part there was a presentation of Microsoft Business Central with usage scenarios in a hypothetical Greek Limited Company active in the field of trading electrical appliances, ELEKTRIKI S.A. Its advantages in the practical part are identical with the findings of the literature.
