The subject of this thesis is the criteria for the selection of a private school by parents and people who will have children in the future. The exploration of the topic is done through a bibliographical review of scientific articles and books that have been published from time to time on education, as well as through the analysis of the results of relevant research. First, the definition of education and its historical evolution, starting from ancient Greece and up to the present day, are presented. The differences and similarities between Greek public and private education are then analysed, while extensive reference is made to educational systems in Europe, including those of Finland, Sweden, Norway, France and Spain. An important part of the paper is occupied by the presentation of the results of the survey conducted to investigate the criteria for choosing a private school over a public one.
