The main objective of this thesis is to study the dry bulk shipping industry.
Specifically, by taking the current market prices of different dry cargo categories of
ships from 2018 to 2022, we wanted to prove by applying an econometric model
whether they are affected by the type of cargo they carry such as iron ore, grain, coal,
bauxite, aluminium, phosphates, by the time the ships stay in ports, the average age of
the ships, the maximum size of the ships, average vessel size, supply growth, demand
growth, annual Baltic dry cargo index, average Baltic dry cargo index.
We also wanted to apply an econometric model to examine whether the prices of the
shipping company's used dry cargo ships are affected by the capacity of the dry cargo
ships and the date of construction.
