Electricity does not stop at borders. What happens in one country's electricity system affects its neighbours, and vice versa. Cross-border trade in electricity is a key aspect of the common electricity market established by the EU. The harmonization of electricity market rules requires a coordinated policy framework between member states. This paper presents the current state of this framework, as well as future plans and perspectives in the EU-27.
