Projection mappingAbstract
In this paper, a comprehensive investigation of the relatively new technology called "mapped
video projection technology" or "projection mapping" was conducted. First, we analyze the term
and the names that this technology has taken over the years and look at its historical origins,
discovering its first appearances and its evolution into what it is today. Then, we analyze the
technical features that make up a projection mapping project: a presentation and explanation of
the equipment and software needed for projection mapping is given, and then the workflow that
one needs to follow to complete such a project is analyzed. Next, with the help of multiple
examples, we discover the uses and applications of this technology, covering areas such as
educational, cultural and socio-political among others, seeing the ways in which projection
mapping has been used in different scenarios to serve different purposes. Finally, we conclude
by creating a video with the purpose of projection mapping in a building and analyzing the
process followed in detail at each stage. The results of the case study are given at the end, as
our video participated in the Finnish festival for projection mapping MAPSION called "TIME".
