Nowadays it is an undeniable fact that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
have invaded all areas of human life. One of them is education. In this thesis we will examine
new teaching and learning methods with the use of New Technologies in Secondary Education
in the context of philological courses. In more detail, gamification techniques and Virtual and
Augmented Reality technologies in the teaching of philological courses will be studied.
Initially, the multiple benefits and limitations of the use of these technologies in the learning
process will be examined, as well as the problems and difficulties that arise during their
implementation. In addition, we will explore the perspective of Philologists for the inclusion of
ICT (gamification, Virtual and Augmented Reality) in the educational process and specifically
in the teaching and learning of philological courses. In more detail, we explore their views on
whether there is a correlation between the use of ICT and the improvement of the learning
process. For this purpose, we conducted a quantitative survey of 81 Secondary Education
Philologists (who work in schools and tutoring schools) by distributing an electronic
questionnaire. To analyze and process the results we used the Python3 programming language.
We studied the existing correlations between the answers to the various questions and we were
led to the conclusion that the majority of Philologists are positive about the integration of ICT
in the teaching practice. They recognize their strengths in education and wish to be trained to
incorporate them into the teaching of their courses. However, they also recognize the technical
difficulties of integrating them into today's school reality.
