Small and medium-sized enterprises / organizations (SMEs) play a very important role in any economy, and are considered drivers of entrepreneurship, growth, innovation, competitiveness, and are very important employers. Some of these organizations have even become market leaders, gaining a global perspective. Small and medium-sized enterprises can make a significant contribution to creating and offering new and quality jobs. This fact is in stark contrast to the fact that scientific research and literature to date has partially / partially covered the field of strategic SME management.
The conceptual framework of strategic management is defined as the environmental scanning, planning, implementation, and evaluation processes designed to maintain or enhance a competitive advantage. The environmental scanning process concerns the external and internal environment, the planning includes the development of business models, the definition of the organizational direction, the tactics of dealing with the competition, the formulation of an international strategy, the acquisitions, and the cooperative actions. The managers of the SME are now faced with real threats and negative possibilities, from various environmental discontinuities. Therefore, they need to be carriers of change in relation to traditional methods of strategy formulation, in order to be better prepared to meet the challenges arising from the rapidly changing.
As concerns about the impact of globalization on SMEs have grown significantly in recent years, strategic management has become critical: hence the need to increase relevant scientific research in the current and globalized environment. The issue of SME’s strategic management deserves more attention due to the new threats and opportunities created by the forces of globalization, something to which this work has been devoted, with the adoption of qualitative research.
