The present thesis adresses the protection of intellectual property of video games mainly in terms of their content, treating them as complex intellectual works consisting of individual intellectual creations. It analyses the individual subdivisions of the intellectual property of a video game that are subject to legal protection, and how the courts of various countries have dealt with a variety of cases, often with contradictory decisions. The most commonly used methods of protecting intellectual property through copyright are mentioned, the common conventions developed in the video game industry to protect not only the creators, but also the artists who contribute to the realization of a video game from illegal and unlicensed use. In addition, reference is made to a number of specific issues relating to intellectual property, which are located on a 'grey area' of the law, due to their complexity of their nature.
