The supply chain crisis has received a lot of attention recently. It is not difficult to see why. The crisis has had far-reaching effects on industry and the global economy. It has contributed to rising costs, layoffs, reduced production and empty store shelves. However, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon in the form of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The technology is enhancing the supply chain in a variety of ways, from optimizing inventory management to improving warehousing and storage processes and automating critical aspects of the supply chain. AI in the supply chain has the potential to significantly enhance logistics in an era where every minute counts. Inventory management is often both an art and a science. It requires tactical management of existing inventory levels while anticipating future needs by decision makers. It requires managers to develop an adequate understanding of market trends and customer behavior in order to identify the sweet spot in inventory planning, ensuring that there is always an adequate supply of critical products and materials while avoiding excess and waste. This is a challenging operation with a substantial impact on the supply chain, as proper inventory management prevents the supply line from being overloaded with rushed shipments or unnecessary transfers. The purpose of this paper is to make a thorough literature review on the applications of artificial intelligence in the supply chain, the risks and the ways to manage them.
