COVID-19Abstract
The outbreak of SARS-COV-2 led to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and caused over 4.5 million deaths worldwide by September 2021. In addition to the public health crisis, COVID-19 has significantly affected the global economy and development, with special sectors in the fields of energy, shipping, transport and also the pharmaceutical industry. Recognizing the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is critical to mitigating negative behavioral changes directly related to people's psychological and social well-being.
The main sources of impacts in the sectors of energy, shipping, transport and also the pharmaceutical industry were the subject of investigation in this paper.
Methodologically, the literature review method was followed and I searched internet sources such as google scholar, pubmed, scopus using the help of keywords such as pandemic, covid19, transport, shipping, energy.
From the results of the research, it appeared that the pandemic had the consequence of causing several negative consequences in many areas of social and economic life, with typical areas of energy, the food industry, shipping, the economy as well as the pharmaceutical industry and health in general.
Transportation of food and raw materials was curtailed, many ports were closed and ships were simply converted into food warehouses. Further, it is worth noting that in the energy sector crude oil prices have fluctuated either up or down with the consequence of further adverse effects on both shipping rates and the economies of developing and politically unstable countries. economies, which could not cope with the maelstrom of the pandemic.
Finally, in the pharmaceutical industry there were shortages of drugs for patients with chronic diseases, increases in the prices of pharmaceutical products in general due mainly to the increase in the production prices of drugs and pharmaceutical preparations, while many millions of euros were spent in this sector in order for the pharmaceutical industries to be able to manufacture drugs and vaccines against the pandemic.
