The subject of this thesis is the investigation of the role of innovation in the energy sector. In particular, the sector of Renewable Energy Sources is analyzed focusing the study on offshore wind energy and its perspective in the energy transformation for clean energy. Ørsted, the world leader in offshore wind energy, was chosen as a case study. The research process was based on a specific methodology. The methodological framework followed for the comprehensive approach to the subject is the bibliographic investigation of books, publications in scientific journals. In addition, an extensive processing of primary and secondary sources of information was carried out (statistical data, relevant studies, research, data from international organizations, current legislative framework, etc.). The development of offshore wind energy over the last 30 years is a lesson in how a green energy through innovation can be transformed into a cost-competitive energy. Its continuous scaling through technological progress is turning the industry into a competitive, large-scale one with efficiency-maximizing trends.
