This master's thesis is action research for the study of the application of the "flipped classroom" model in combination with the use of augmented reality in the history lesson of the Primary School and especially for students of the 3rd Primary.
The model of the "inverted" classroom and augmented reality vary in terms of the advantages they offer as reported in the international literature. Among them is included the correct use of teaching time through group activities that allow students to understand the material more easily and the teacher to acquire the role of guide and focus on each student according to the educational needs he presents. At the same time, there is a reference to improved learning outcomes regarding the acquisition of knowledge and the cultivation of social interaction skills among students. These constitute the hypotheses, which are to be investigated using the experimental results of the work.
This master's thesis was designed with action research that lasted for a month and concerned the implementation of the "inverted classroom" in combination with the use of augmented reality. The educational intervention used for its design the Ms Teams learning management system. The research examined the results of the "inverted" classroom model in combination with the use of augmented reality for the 3rd grade History course. More specifically, the research questions of the action research were:
1. Can this flipped classroom model produce better learning outcomes in terms of developing historical thinking skills and recalling knowledge?
2. Can the flipped classroom model lead to a more creative and properly structured use of teaching time in the educational process?
3. Can the flipped classroom model combined with the use of augmented help students create social interactions within the group?
The results of the research showed that the implementation of the "inverted" classroom in combination with the use of augmented reality can bring about improved learning results in terms of achieving goals, more specifically in the cultivation of historical thinking skills. At the same time, it contributes to the correct and more creative use of teaching time and finally contributes significantly to the cultivation of social interactions within the group.
