Neonatal mortality has always been an object of study and observation. The term neonatal mortality essentially refers to the number of deaths of newborn babies who are less than one year old. Neonatal mortality is a major issue for the field of medicine as well as for the field of research. The risk factors for the occurrence of infections during the neonatal period are many and can cause from mild to extremely severe diseases in newborns. The main purpose of the study is to investigate the levels and factors of occurrence of neonatal morbidity and neonatal mortality within the European Union.A literature search was performed using online databases such as Pubmed and Google Scholar. A significant reduction in the neonatal mortality rate was found both in Greece and in other European countries. However, there are still high infant mortality rates that need to be addressed effectively and strategically.
