The use of smartphones is something most of us deal with in a daily basis, all around the world. Most smartphones nowadays have the ability of doing several actions, such us taking pictures of high resolution, acting as an alarm clock that wakes the user up in the morning and locating the coordinates of the device by calculating the geographical latitude and longitude, by connecting to satellites. Those smartphones are also able to execute complex procedures and perform automated actions, when needed.
Even though the use of such technology comes easy to young people who grew up around it, it is clear that seniors are having trouble using that kind of technology. Having a visual or a hearing disability, combined with the difficulty of using a touch screen while having trouble with absorbing new knowledge, renders them unable to use their mobile phone.
This Thesis, presents a solution to the issues that emerged, suggesting the use of an application called ElderHelper by seniors, which has been created in the context of that same Thesis. The ultimate purpose of the application is to familiarize them, with their mobile phones, by simplifying the most common uses of the device, as much as possible, so that every senior user will be able to use his device at the full extend, immediately and without problems.
