After the 16th century, the widespread use of cosmetics and personal care products has brought to the spotlight hundreds of times the biggest question about the consumers’ health and safety. Five centuries later, this issue is being raised almost on a daily basis. Consequently, cosmetic industries follow GMPs by observing meticulously and precisely these guidelines, in order to ensure throughout the supply chain, the superior quality of the final product. In fact, recently there have been great collaborations between countries to create international Standards, Bodies or Organizations that will guarantee the high quality of a cosmetic product and ensure the health and safety of the public.
As it happens in any other industry, the operation of each cosmetic production unit is quite different from the others even if the production activity of two units is located in the same state and governed by the same national legislation. Τhis is due to the fact that these units differ in terms of capacity and the type of cosmetics they produce. However, the basis of their operation is governed by the same philosophy and quality standard.
Therefore, the purpose of this work is to present exactly the issue above, that is very often discussed: the ISO 22716:2007 quality standard, whom final goal is the marketing of products that are safe for the consumers’ health. Thus, the standard was established on the basis of Good Manufacturing, Transportation and Storage Practices, on which many national consumer protection laws were based for years.
