This master thesis deals with the issue of the energy crisis, which has already affected Europe and Greece since the end of 2021.
In particular, bibliographic research was carried out, with the aim of investigating the causes that led to the manifestation of the energy crisis, the effects it had in Europe and in Greece, the perspectives that appear, as well as the ways in which it could be dealt with.
From the analysis of the findings, it was found that the main causes of the energy crisis are on the one hand the high dependence of Europe on Russian natural gas and oil and on the other hand the fact that both the authorities in Greece and the European authorities had not taken the required measures to shield themselves against the coming crisis.
On the other hand, the effects both in Europe and in Greece are primarily economic since the basic macro-economic figures have been burdened and the development course has been stopped. Also, the effects are social since there is a burden on the quality of life of citizens in most countries.
Turning to the perspectives that emerge from the energy crisis, they concern the gradual weaning of Europe from Russian natural gas and oil, as well as the smooth green transition.
Finally, from the analysis of the literature, it was found that a wide range of proposals has been formulated by the scholars, regarding the ways of dealing with the existing energy crisis.
