The behavioural economics and their application in primary education

Abstract
Behavioral Economics has now gone beyond mere academic curiosity, touching almost every
sector of the modern economy, including the field of education.
Each person's decision to invest in his education is one of the most important financial
decisions he makes during his life. This decision, in preschool and early childhood, depends on the
fact that parents are required to make investments in their children's academic education in order
to ensure long-term benefits for them. Behavioral Economics and the Nudge Theory, through
enhancement of cognitive and soft skills and the provision of motivations, affect these decisions.
This paper investigates the factors that “push” parents to the optimal choice of a private
primary school for their children. 150 parents participated in the research, answering a
questionnaire in an electronic form. After analyzing and processing the collected data, it appears
that parents who offer their children private education are dissatisfied with the provision of
appropriate education by the Public School. Their motivations are the provision of rich educational
equipment, the better building facilities, flexible timetables and personalized teaching.
Therefore, parents' decision to invest in their children's education is explained by Behavioral
Economics and the Nudge Theory, as they prefer to pay extra to provide their children with what
they consider to be a better education, motivated by their future socio-economic and vocational
rehabilitation.
