Since 2009, the Greek state and its citizens have been subjected to several changes. In the years following 2009, there was a major reduction in public spending, while studies show that many households were living below the poverty line. The economic crisis and its negative effects have affected every social group, and of course the education sector has not been unaffected. Educational institutions, school principals and working teachers had to adapt within a very short period of time and achieve the proper functioning of the school without basic materials, while at the same time they had to manage students who had found themselves in a dire social and economic situation, with their parents experiencing titanic financial problems. Apart from everything else, the teaching staff were also facing the same problems. Given that society and the school are two inseparable and interacting aspects, principals, because of the importance of their position and its significance, were called upon to play the role of crisis managers. The main purpose of our research was to measure the impact that education received due to this economic crisis. Additional purposes were to detect the economic, social and psychological consequences it brought to teachers and students as well as to outline the situation from the perspective of the managers, how they experienced the circumstances and how they managed them in order to achieve optimal educational outcomes.
