It is undeniable that climate change is one of the greatest threats faced by humanity during the last decades. Human activities are undoubtedly the major cause of environmental pollution. Specific measures have been put in place in virtually every aspect of everyday lives, so as to ensure that these negative consequences to the environment are mitigated.
Logistics focuses on the processes that have to do with the transportation, distribution and storage of products. As a result, this field has great importance when it comes to global financial activities. Green logistics is the sector that looks into certain practices that aim to minimize the environmental footprint of companies, while at the same time reduces costs. It also aims at identifying cases where certain materials can be reused.
The first steps towards greener logistics practices have already been implemented in Greece. Nevertheless, these practices must be broadened as soon as possible in order to limit the environmental footprint of the logistics field.
In the not so distant future, it is evident that there will be increased pressure from governments and from the society towards sustainability. Therefore, the “green logistics” area of study is extremely important and is expected to expand over the coming years.
