The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the relationship between the concepts of migration, security and strategy. It aspires to highlight the way in which this relationship affects and shapes states' policies (internal and external) as well as interstate relations. Through the extensive analysis of these concepts, their main components are presented at the level of the European Union, through the European treaties, but also in the case of Greece. In the chapters included, security challenges created by the migration phenomenon are reflected, such as terrorism and the rise of far-right ideology at a social and political level, as well as the way in which states use migration as a tool with the ultimate goal of achieving specific economic, political and other objectives. Completing the analysis, the thesis is led to the presentation of a timeline of Euro-Turkish relations, up to the joint statement of the two sides regarding migration (EU-Turkey Statement), focusing the analysis on the attitude maintained by Turkey towards Europe and Greece, enlisting migration as a means of exerting pressure. In the last chapter of the thesis, a series of conclusions are presented regarding the instrumentalization of refugees both inside and outside the European Union, while at the same time an attempt is made to highlight the fragile situation of migration in Greece as well as future challenges that may appear, taking into account the transitional period our country is going through.
