The COVID-19 virus appeared in December 2019 and within two months it was declared a global pandemic, suspending all activities and affecting all areas of life. All education systems, worldwide, were called upon to provide solutions to this unprecedented crisis, as schools closed and learning shifted from live to distance education. School principals have been a catalyst in sustaining learning and education.
The object of this thesis is to investigate the most important difficulties and problems faced by secondary school principals during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to assess the personal characteristics and skills that are most important in the effective management of this crisis. The topic is initially approached through the existing literature and early research and findings that exist in relation to the management of the pandemic by school leaders. The following is a quantitative study focusing on the views and experiences of secondary school principals in how they experienced and managed the pandemic in the schools they lead, which was carried out using a closed-ended online questionnaire. The purpose of the research is to highlight the administrative problems of school managers and to come up with conclusions and proposals for future preparation, readiness and competence of a manager in managing a new crisis.
