A determining factor in maritime cargo transport is Marine Insurance, that is why its
evolution is presented over time. In the present thesis, which constitutes a literature
review, a specific importance is attached to dry and liquid cargo insurance as well as
their distinct characteristics which determine their transport. Initially, the aim of the
thesis is to study marine insurance cargo, which, in fact, is influenced by Hague Rules
and the International Commercial Terms (Incoterms). In addition, the main
characteristics of dry and liquid cargo are presented pinpointing their unique
characteristics in marine insurance. A comprehensive analysis of Institute Cargo
Clauses and particularly (A), (B), (C) is made while concluding marine policy. The
latter are embraced as typical terms by many international organisations. Actually, the
Institute has deemed specific Clauses with reference to distinct categories of dry and
liquid cargo, i.e. timber, coal, rubber, oil. Finally, in an effort to secure cargo against
any risks, BIMCO (Baltic and International Maritime Council) has been involved in the
development and refinement of maritime regulations regarding Clauses in Charter
Parties for both dry and liquid cargo. Consequently, the aforementioned Rules and
Clauses should be taken into consideration regarding marine insurance by everyone
involved in maritime cargo transport, i.e. insured, insurer, carrier, cargo receiver.
