Research on lifelong learning in Detention Centers has shown a positive correlation between education opportunities and the elimination of social exclusion and the prevention of recidivism. In this respect, opportunities for acquiring knowledge and continuing their studies in prisons are an important part of the prisoners' subsequent social integration. In Greece, the case of Second Chance Schools comes to strengthen this integration and to give an opportunity to supply the basic knowledge around education. This paper examines the degree of influence of these schools on detainees and reflects their own views on the benefits and obstacles that arise from their participation in such an education program.
