The situation created by the suspension of operations in schools, under harsh conditions for urgent distance teaching due to the Covid-19 pandemic, caused a great disturbance in the educational field. Distance education was a one-way street for the education of students. The challenges and obstacles that teachers had to face, led to various surveys that primarily aimed to highlight the problems that arose so that the educational community would be ready for a possible similar situation in the future. A bibliographic report was made and ways of dealing with it were recorded from different countries.
This dissertation studied the degree of readiness of secondary school teachers for distance education during the 2 long periods when schools were closed, as well as the impact of readiness by demographic data. They are also looking for the basic digital skills that teachers had with the six areas of the European DigCompEdu Framework, the challenges they faced, the school unit in which they worked, and their students. Finally, their needs and the proposed improvements for more effective implementation of distance education are recorded, as well as the combination of modern and asynchronous distance education with face-to-face education.
For the needs of the survey, an online questionnaire (google forms) was used, and 286 teachers participated, recording their degree of readiness, their digital skills, their views, and the need to acquire knowledge and basic skills for the requirements of distance education.
The results of the survey revealed the need for focused training not so much in digital tools but on pedagogical issues, aiming at reducing inequalities among students.
