Human resource management is one of the most important functions within an organization. In addition, the specific characteristics of the shipping industry, which are related to the working environment (jobs on ship or offices on land), the multiculturalism of the industry and the importance of the industry for world trade, play a decisive role in the way applying HRM to shipping companies. The potential for digitalization of HRM in shipping is enormous today, with major global market players, such as Singaporean shipping companies, constantly adopting new measures and new ways of implementing digital HRM, creating a new environment for shipping workers with more opportunities, but also with greater obligations of learning and development.
