Social media are an integral part of the lives of most people today, and as a result a huge amount of raw information has been gathered. Here comes the data mining on social networks and presents ways to extract this data in some form that can be analyzed to get results or predictions on a specific project at hand. This thesis will make an introduction to social media, data mining and machine learning. Then there will be a presentation in some areas of research social media data mining is dealing with and finally there will be a presentation of research in some illustrative applications of data mining.
