Emotional intelligence is a critical component of education. The ability to understand and at the same time, influence the emotions of others, is considered a special element which must be possessed by the participants in the educational process, especially for school leaders. For school leaders, stress is inevitable. The daily success of leadership is emotionally demanding, and new challenges, along with day-to-day accountability to senior executives, create a feverish sentiment, even in the strongest leaders. Leaders with fairly developed emotional intelligence seem to have greater self-awareness. Among other actions, they display reflective behavior about their feelings and meaning. They learn to recognize behaviors in the school environment, especially those that appear problematic and can create an unhealthy learning environment. This paper is a review of the role played by the factor of emotional intelligence in the exercise of effective leadership in education.
