Abstract

Having to deal with sight loss or low vision is one of the challenges that visually impaired people are facing in their lives. They are individuals like anyone else, however, they miss the ability to see which makes it difficult their daily needs to be satisfied. Taking into consideration the multiple challenges of those people, I have been triggered to concern myself with this matter. Therefore, this master thesis intents to present and design a complete application which facilitates the daily life of people with vision problems starting from the basic daily activities, for example the communication with other people. More specifically an application is developed which can recognize the emotions of the interlocutor of the user as well as, with voice messages, inform him about the latter’s emotions. This will result in the improvement of the communication with the interlocutor by understanding his reactions and movements. Another functionality to be found in this app is the reading of a document or any text format recognizable by the device's camera. The application is customized best possible to be easy in use and flexible for the user and is made with the hope that will ease several other needs of visually challenged people such as travelling, walking on the streets, the need to read an important document and entertain themselves with reading a book or an article.
