The issue of innovation in education constitutes a multidimensional concept, which is inextricably linked to the observation and highlighting of a number of different contemporary realities that may exist and emerge more generally within a society. Such realities, for example, may arise from changes or from the need for new conditions arising in the field of economy or the labor market, etc. The evolution and change that is sought or imposed politically and socially creates the need for the term innovation to be evaluated designed and implemented by educational policy.
The present thesis, guided by innovation in education, attempts to study its connectivity with digital technologies, which have penetrated the daily lives of both teachers and learners. At the same time, it is obvious that the fostering and implementation of innovations in the educational process depends largely on a number of parameters. This concerns the educational leadership, regarding the implementation of innovations or the role of teacher training methodology in general but also specifically novel educational programs.
The present thesis includes research highlighting the teachers’ position regarding the innovation in education. The survey was conducted by statistical analysis of questionnaires, which were distributed to a sample of 40 people. The respondents are either primary or secondary teachers who live in the greater area of Chania. The questions were in relation to the aforementioned parameters, namely modern technologies, teacher training methods and school leadership. The questions seek to answer four research issues. Indicatively, it is given: "From the point of view of teachers, can modern digital technologies contribute to the promotion of innovations in the educational process?”. The conclusions of the research are presented in detail in the research part of the thesis.
