Nowadays, environmental awareness and mobilization, as a consequence of climate change, is at the forefront of public debate more than ever.
The business world could not be left unaffected by these developments. The search for economical and environmentally friendly fuel sources has been the primer target and subject of investments in recent decades.
A more economic and eco-friendly alternative to the energy and shipping sector has been the emergence of liquefied natural gas (Liquid Natural Gas - LNG). Also, shipbuilding and the construction of dual fuel engines are nowadays an interesting trend that could lead to significant long-term environmental benefits.
This paper will attempt to overview the value chain of small - scale LNG and its market participants, then will evaluate market expansion opportunities, especially with regards to the factors favorable to the development of infrastructure along with the challenges associated with such an expansion.
The main research question of this paper is whether there is a regulatory framework to encourage relevant investments and for this purpose a geographical overview of the regulatory framework will be conducted at both international and Greek level.
