The relationship between distance education and citizens 'access to the education system

Abstract
Nowadays, the rapid development of technology has affected every human activity, as well as
the field of education and more specifically adult education. The causes of this new trend in
education are located in the presence of distance education, which has recently become more
pronounced. The advantages of distance education are many and they are what make it a form
of education, very accessible to all, while the improvement of Information and
Communication Technologies (ICT) has evolved it, making it very effective for trainees, who
are at a distance and their available time is limited.
In this present research, the characteristics that shape and influence distance education will
be examined first, in order to determine in the best possible way, the process of acquiring
knowledge, through technological development. In particular, an attempt will be made to
determine the characteristics of distance education in Greece, the views of citizens on distance
education in the country, but also the views of Greek citizens regarding the integration of
distance education in the education system.
