The present dissertation entitled "Gender and school leadership in Greece. An evolutionary course from the second half of the 20th century until today ", aims to the investigation and recording of possible gender discriminations in the leadership of education in Greece, their interpretation and the attempt to submit some proposals. In the theoretical part, through a literature review, the importance of gender roles was examined, namely, the elements that define male and female behavior, in all areas of life at a national level. Bibliographic references regarding education as a field and as a means for the social and professional recognition of women and the elimination of gender discrimination were recorded. To continue, the importance of the identification of the teaching profession with the female sex was studied, as well as the reasons for their under-representation in leading positions. In the research part of the thesis, an attempt was made to study the way in which the school principals themselves perceive possible discrimination in the exercise of their duties. Their views on the organization, management and operation of the school unit regarding their gender were recorded and researched and finally, in the limited context of our research effort, an attempt was made to capture and interpret the influence of the biological sex of the school leadership in the relationships’ network of the school environment.
