The last biennium was a tough period for Greece and specifically for the Greek school community. The unexpected appearance of the Covid-19 pandemic provoked the prorogation of the Greek schools of all levels. The enforcers of the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs and the Greek schools were forced to organize themselves, co-operate with each other and equip themselves as fasts as possible aiming at the continuation of the provision of knowledge and skills to the Greek students. As a result, distance education came on the front line of school reality and took the place of regular education.
The present quantitative study focuses on the Greek primary schools and investigates the perceptions and the skills of the Greek primary school teachers as regards distance learning before its implementation, the problems faced by both teaches and students during its implementation, as well as the teachers’ satisfaction from the fore mentioned implementation. One hundred and one primary school teachers who implemented distance education during the last biennium participated in this study by answering closed-ended questionnaire online. The results of the study aim at accenting the deficiencies of the Greek educational system and can be utilized in order to improve the conditions of distance learning as wells as for the better use of technology during regular education.
