Abstract

As part of its development, the software company ‘Softone Technologies’, decided to apply agile methodology. The purpose of adopting this methodology was the better planning of the development and maintenance of its main product, the Softone ERP, as well as the improvement of the communication between the various departments and the Research and Development department which is mostly responsible for the productive part of the company. This thesis examines the effect of the application of the agile methodology to the efficiency of the Research and Development department. For the needs of this study, key performance indicators (KPIs) were developed based on real data from the request management platforms. From the first platform, which is the foremost ticketing system of external environment (partners and customers), data were extracted for the period 2015-2020 - the last six operational years of the company. From the second platform, which is the system of recording, organizing and monitoring requests in agile terms, data were extracted for the period 2018-2020 - the last three years, that this method has been applied to the Research and Development department. The study of all the above and the results obtained from the key performance indicators, showed that the application of the agile methodology had multiple benefits for the Research and Development department and consequently for the overall image of the company. Some of the benefits presented are; the increase in the number of the newly implemented specs by the developer of each scrum team per year, the better integration of the newly acquired developers which in its turn lead to a faster increase in the potential of the Research and Development department, as well as the significant reduction of errors reaching the final customer.
