In recent years, countries are increasingly focusing on environmental protection, sustainability, and the circular economy. A necessary initiative is a proper management of generating waste and its considerable reduction. The present work practices
the modern concept of up-cycling, without much economic cost with the help of Basidiomycetes, the most generating waste of the cinema industry: popcorn and the box offered to customers. Foremost, we checked that the fungi grow on all substrates of
the experiment, the possible production of mushrooms and finally, the reducing sugars and protein percentage of the biomass before and after treatment. Moreover, we analyzed other alternative ways of using the mycelium that grows on the specific waste.
